Our Story
La Plaza de Paulo, Inc., formerly known as Plaza Comunitaria Port Chester, began its activities in October 2010 with an adult literacy program. Since then, it has grown to offer more educational opportunities to the community.
Inspired by the educational vision of Paulo Freire, La Plaza de Paulo believes that education helps people discover their voice, strengthen their confidence, and participate more fully in family, work, and community life.
Today, we offer English classes, Spanish literacy, GED/HSE preparation, citizenship classes, and basic computer skills, supporting adults who want to continue learning and open new opportunities for themselves and their families.

Our Inspiration
La Plaza de Paulo is named in honor of Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator who believed in an education that helps adults discover their voice, strengthen their confidence, and transform their lives.
We believe that learning is not only about receiving information. It is also about recognizing what each person already knows, valuing their experience, and building new opportunities from it.
