Who We Are
La Plaza de Paulo, Inc. is a community-based educational organization in Port Chester, New York, dedicated to offering learning opportunities for adults. We support people who want to learn English, strengthen their reading and writing skills, prepare for the GED/HSE, study for citizenship, or develop basic computer skills.
We believe that adult education transforms not only one person, but also their family and the entire community.
Our Story
La Plaza de Paulo began its activities in October 2010 as Plaza Comunitaria Port Chester, with an adult literacy program. From the beginning, the project was created in response to the need for an accessible educational space for immigrant adults and members of the Hispanic community.
Over the years, La Plaza has expanded its offerings to include a broader range of educational programs, including ESL, GED/HSE, citizenship, basic computer skills, and Spanish literacy.
Today, La Plaza de Paulo, Inc. continues its mission of supporting adults who want to keep learning, strengthen their confidence, and open new opportunities for themselves and their families.

Our Inspiration
La Plaza de Paulo is named in honor of Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educator who believed in an education that helps adults discover their voice, strengthen their confidence, and transform their lives.
Inspired by his vision, we believe that learning is not only about receiving information. It is also about recognizing what each person already knows, valuing their experience, and building new opportunities from it.
